Post Question
Hey Ya'll, I having a big issue here and hope someone can help me.
Using win xp and you know when you start your computer and as it's booting up there's that brief few seconds before it starts loading windows when you can press the DEL button and enter the computers SET-UP mode. Well when it goes into setup mode a window pops up asking for a password...........I bought this computer brand-new and I don't ever remember enabling password mode to enter this SET-UP mode, so now what am I to do to eliminate this f'n password required thing? I tried the various combinations of passwords I may have used incase I just dont remember enabling a password, but nothing .......

Standing by to hear if I can bypass this somehow, reset it, or if I'm fu--ed......... :cray:

Post Re: Question
Ronak, did you get in your BIOS yet? The easiest thing from a non-technical perspective is to try is power down and remove the button cell lithium battery from the motherboard. Wait anywhere from 30 sec to 15min to let the caps run dry. Then put the battery back in, fire it up and enter BIOS. [Warning - using this method will set all your BIOS settings to default] If you still have the password after this then we need a little more information.

I'm looking at a Gigabyte motherboard manual and they have a jumper called CLR_CMOS printed right on the board.
-pwr down
-put a jumper on the pins or short out with screwdriver for ~15 sec.
-make sure you remove the jumper before you power up.

Some mboards have 3pin reset jumpers. In that case move the jumper from pins 1&2 to 2&3 for 15 sec or so then put it back. Turn it back on and no more password.

If that didn't do it post the motherboard brand/model or make and model and I'll find out for you.

Post Re: Question
I have done what TriggerFish has suggested but you have to leave the battery out of the board for a while not just a pop out and in action. If you have your motherboard manual it might indicate a jumper you can short to clear it with out yanking the battery as TriggerFish mentioned.

Why are you going into the bios?
